Hello! My fiance and I are currently househunting and looking at purchasing in the Point of Rocks/Jefferson, MD vicinity. I teach in Ashburn, VA and my fiance works in Dulles, VA. We both are very familiar with driving Route 15 as both our families are in Pennsylvania up that direction. We are hoping to get some information from everyone here on buying in that area and commuting down. We are hoping for a 45 minute max drive each day (of course minus any unforeseen circumstances).

My fiance can make his own work schedule daily. Mine is more set - I usually arrive anywhere between 730 and 8:15am at the latest, and can leave as early as 3:30pm.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Why not just buy a place between Ashburn and Dulles?

I have a coworker who travels from that part of MD down 15 to 7 to Sterling. I'm not sure exactly how long it normally takes him, but he doesn't hate it, and he still seems pretty sane He has the added convenience of passing lots of stores and such in Leesburg on his way to/from work, so it's easy for him to get errands done.

My guess is price. Ashburn isn't exactly cheap. I'm sure you can get a lot more for your dollar in the Point of Rocks area.

It depends on where in Ashburn your job is. If you're closer to 50 than to 7 or 267, it might be problematic.

Is there a reason you'd prefer Point of Rocks as opposed to the rural parts of Loudoun, or Clarke/Frederick County VA?
