I live in Prince William County near Gainesville, and I've just gotten a job in D.C. with a late-day work schedule, starting at noon. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get downtown.

The nearest public transit option is the Metro Direct bus from Manassas, but to get to work on time (including walking distance from the Metro station), I'd have to take the bus more than 3 hours before starting work. Is there a better way? Should I try to find parking at the Vienna Metro? Or will I just have to suck it up and take the bus?

I was going to say take the VRE, but it doesn't run that late into DC. So your best bet is probably just take the metro and expect to park at the top of the parking garage. I assume you can get a space that time of day.

Thanks, Heather,
I've been too busy to respond since I started work, but I really appreciate your help. You were right, and I did end up driving to the Vienna garage. Fortunately, my job turned out to have an 11 a.m. start (instead of noon), and 10 a.m. is the perfect time to grab a leftover reserved spot. It's the best of all possible worlds--at least, for anyone living as far out as Gainesville. But I just might move, as soon as I'm able! Thanks again!

You should stay later, that way you can leave after metro stops charging you for parking
