Very nice photos. Are the paths walkable from your home or do you need to drive first?

I did these first two walks from my home. Tomorrow I'm going to drive to Lake Anne for my walk.

So...just curious...how safe are the paths these days? In the past, one had to be concerned about possible crimes happening.

I have always felt safe on the paths, though I have generally only walked the paths in the South Lakes/Walker Nature Center area. As I walk the paths in other areas of Reston, I will provide feedback if I think that my safety is an issue.

Default Walk #3

Fabulous walk this morning around Lake Anne. I parked on Inlet Court and headed across the dam.

I found Surf Reston getting ready for a day of SUPing on Lake Anne and a couple families fishing from the pathway.

There were beautiful clouds reflecting on the water and fabulous flowers.

I walked through a couple of neighborhoods checking out a neighborhood dock, some incredible yard art and a neighborhood beach!

I arrived at Lake Anne plaza via the Van Gogh Bridge.

I visited with Robert Simon.

Checking out the Saturday Market, I bought some delicious strawberries and some crazy carrot juice. There were vendors selling all kinds of fruits and vegetables along with prepared foods. There was also a section with crafts, woodworkers, clothing and Jewelry.

Checked out the children playing in the fountain before heading around the other side of the lake.

Headed back to my car walking on the north side of the lake.

Today's beautiful flower! Today's walk 1.75 miles.

If you head out on to Reston's pathways be sure to bring a trail map. I downloaded this one to my iPhone.

Default Walk #4

Today I decided to drive to Center Harbor Road & Wiehle Avenue and walk to Bright Pond.

I had lots of company on the pathways today, as I just happened to pick one of the paths being used for the Reston Sprint Triathlon.

Bright Pond was beautiful and attracts lots of birds. The birds I saw today included a Great Blue Heron, a Green Heron, a Red-winged Black Bird, a male Eastern Bluebird visiting a nest box, a Barn Swallow and one unidentified swimming/diving bird.

Reston has a program for residents to buy a bench and have it placed in their favorite place on Reston property for all to use. People also use this to share bits of wisdom. Today's walk 2.0 miles.

Default Walk #5

Decided to stay close to home today and use the forested canopy of the Walker Nature Center to catch the drizzling rain.

Started at the neighborhood dock where I checked out a mother Wood Duck taking three very cute little ones for a stroll on Lake Audubon and a bunch of turtles hanging out on the platform made for them by a nice Eagle Scout.

Here is the Wood Duck nesting box.

Headed up the paved path to the Walker Nature Center.

Checked out the frogs in the pond at the Walker Nature Center.

Today's pretty flower - Spiderwort - complements of the Walker Nature Center's garden.

Headed down the natural path to Snakeden Branch. I love the ferns!

Shared the pathway today with a turtle and a deer.

I didn't even get wet! Today's walk 2.0 miles.
