My cat has been missing since last Tuesday, April 22nd. I live near Huntsman Blvd. I've contacted the Fairfax County Animal Shelter and posted his photo on their website. I also contacted VDOT Animal Control to see if they picked him up after possibly being hit. I've posted a few signs up in the neighborhood. Is there anything else or any other agencies that I can go to?

Hi Bonnie - I'm so sorry your kitty is missing. I hope he comes back home soon! You might also want to alert your local civic/home owners associations down Huntsman. I'll bet they'll keep an eye out for your little guy.

I had a cat missing for 2 weeks before she finally returned home...so don't give up yet.

Good luck.

Maybe one or two of these would be worth a try:

Have you tried calling your cats name in sewer drains (don't know what they are called) and listen for any meowing? Walk around the neighborhood with his favorite food and call his name?

Put your cat's favorite food and bowl on your front steps?

Put your cat's picture in the window of any local vet's office?

Craig's list? Does the Wash. Post still carry lost pet ads?

Do you have a neighborhood community website or newsletter?

Ask the mail carrier?

I'm not sure, but I don't think cats go way far away real quickly.

BonnieB, I hope you find your kitty friend. Back in the 80's my cat went missing in south Arlington. My neighbors made fun of me because I went out several times a day to clank on her food dish and call her name. After a month my wife called me at work and said Mishy has come home She was skinny and anemic (white gums) and we took her to the vet. He suspected that she had gotten trapped in a garage or something. She recovered herself within weeks and went on to live 18 healthy years.

I'm not in Springfield so unfortunately can't help you out. But I have an email list of my neighborhood and would be glad to forward out such a request if I received one about a similar situation. So I'll second the suggestion about contacting HOAs in the area, they may have email networks.

Hi Bonnie...once I had a kitty get out; I did most of the things that folks here have listed relative to food bowls and kitty litter, flyers, alerting neighbors. I had completely given up after three months; I had a kitty door between my garage and the door to my mud room. I heard the flap of the kitty door make a noise; I didn't realize I had left my garage door up. Sure enough, it was Hannah! She was home again, she was clean and had actually gained a pound or two. I couldn't believe it after all that time. So I would add "leave your garage door up while you're home" to the list of suggestions. It was an accident for me that I had left it up, I've often wondered if she had tried to come home many times before I accidentally left the door up.

Best of luck to you; I hope she comes home soon.
