Martv have you asked any of your fellow teachers if they have childcare recommendations yet? IF YOU HAVEN"T YET - probably better to get recomendations there rather then from strangers posting on the internet. Often times the front office personnel at schools are familiar with local childcare providers as well. They are the ones dealing with pickup/drop off issues, signing out, etc.

Martatv,

I used to work in a daycare (Minnieland) but unfortunately aren't too familiar with the area you're looking in. I live in Spotsy and commute all the way to Alexandria, we are looking to move to the Lake Ridge or possibly Springfield area so here shortly I will have the same questions as you. I do know that if you visit any daycare sites they usually have a list of things to look for when picking a daycare, so that may help. I personally would not reccomend any Minnieland to anyone. I worked there because I could take my infant daughter there for free, so instead of working just to pay daycare I was actually making some money. That was my first experience in a daycare setting and half the time couldn't believe what I saw/heard. My advice is to ask as many questions as possible. Really get to know the teachers and make them fully aware of your expectations. And I understand that the daycare providers do not "raise" your children. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Not everyone has the "luxury" of staying home with the babies all day. There is nothing wrong with being a career mom in order to financially support your family. Each person has to do what works in their families best interest, that's not going to be the same for everyone.

I have been in the area for 13 years and had two children in Preschools. My opinion is Chesterbrook Academy right next to Chinn library is the best and most educational Preschool in the area. The teachers truly love the children and have a great balance of learning and play. I know they do many open houses. I think if you check the website it will give you the dates. You can also just call to schedule a tour. I hope this helps
