Just remember that many "small, rural communities" are not particularly welcoming of strangers....especially those wit' attitude.

It all depends how you present yourself to the community. Being a part of the small community usually gets you liked by everybody else.

Well, if you want to stay in the same state, you could try Richmond. If that is too urban for you, I would suggest Roanoke.
