Hubby will find out early this next week if he got a 6 month detail to DC and we are again looking at corporate housing. Our detail may evolve into a permanent position so we are trying to find temp housing where we could also afford to live when it is on our own dime, after looking at things it seems as though we could possibly make Springfield work for both the temporary and long term. My question is about the schools in Springfield, do they not fall under Fairfax County? When I enter the temp apt address into the Fairfax SD website it shows no record of this address. So I am confused about where the boys would go to school. Any info would be appreciated.

Yes - anything in Springfield should be zoned for Fairfax County schools.

My only suggestions are (1) make sure the property is not in Alexandria (some properties in Alexandria highlight their proximity to the Springfield metro) and/or (2) make sure you're only entering the building's street address, and not the name of the apartment complex or the apartment number, in the FCPS boundary locator.

No it turns up nothing in the Alexandria schools district and I only entered the street address. The website shows the address as being on Junction Blvd but if you look at the map is shows it on Spring Mall Road. When I google the complex from the address we stayed at in Arlington before it has us turning on Spring Mall Road and looks like it is between Springfield and Franconia. Don't know if that makes any sense at all. NOVA confuses me.

If it's in Alexandria, VA (Franconia) or Springfield, VA (near the Mall), they are both part of Fairfax County although the particular schools will be different depending on boundaries.

I don't know why the locator isn't working for you, but I think the complex you're describing (which is just south of Springfield Mall) feeds into the following schools: Forestdale Elementary, Key Middle and Lee High School. Hope that helps.

You are exactly right, I couldn't understand why it wasn't working either but that is the complex, the person who was nice enough to DM told me these were the schools. Thanks so much for all the help. And actually I thought I would have one in middle school but turns out my 6th grader will still be in elementary there. Here he will be going into middle school. At least I will only be running between 2 schools for one more year.
