failed for several reasons
no brake lights - (a loose wire now fixed by a friend)
headlights 'out of adjustment' (which i just changed for inspection! - fixed by a friends
both valid...
but the 3rd failed ?

but i was failed for no 3rd brakelight at the same inspection station that has passed the vehicle for the past 7-8 years ...3 years under my ownership, 5 under the friend i bought it from!

i dont think my vehicle orginally had it..
(if i need it ill get it) but ..........im pissed that NOW they say i need it!
i would like to complain to the shop, but i think its pointless since the inspector is bound by duty......
how can i complain that they passed it the past 8 years and now say its needed? can i take this further?

so im trying to find the actual inspection information showing the date/info on cars required to have it.

i was told cars manufactured after 1993! (mine is a 94 vehicle manufactured in 93)

where can i find info on the laws?

have read a few of "robbobobbo's" posts and replies and found his info helpful..and his links to the virginia title laws, but i cant find info on this 3rd brakelight thing

Here's the applicable part of the Virginia Administrative Code:
LIS > Administrative Code > 19VAC30-70-560

Looks like the requirement for passenger cars starts with 1986 model year. That's when NHTSA issued the third brake light mandate. The 1993 requirement applies to trucks, buses, and other multipassenger vehicles.

It would me much easier to add (or restore) the third brake light.

Third brake lights have been a requirement for some time - what type of vehicle do you have?

In the U.S., the "center high mount stop lamp" has been required since the 1986 model year for passenger cars and since the 1994 model year for light trucks.
