I'm considering moving to NoVa. What can you tell me about Franconia, Dale City, and Woodbridge?

You won't after you try to commute to McLean/Tysons from Dale City for a few days...

Given those three options, Franconia will definitely be much better in terms of your commute. You can take Franconia Road to Commerce Street directly onto 495. (A lovely new year-old ramp, courtesy of the Mixing Bowl project.) From Dale City or Woodbridge you would have to sit in a lot of traffic on 95 North first. Every morning when my clock radio goes off at 6:00 am the first thing I hear is that traffic is backed up on 95 North somewhere in Prince William County, or in Fairfax where people come in from Prince William.

Loudoun County would offer a better commute to McLean than From Woodbridge.

Look into....(from closest to futherset out)
Fairfax county...
Reston
Herndon

Loudoun county
Sterling
Dullas
Ashburn
Leesburg

All the areas you listed are nice...and each have sections of town that are more sought-after than the other too. You may want to first consider doing an internet search about each town in particular as well, so you can obtain many basic facts/statistics about each town. If you will be working in Mclean you may want consider the western section of Prince William County, e.g. Gainesville, Bristow, Manansass, Haymarket. You can still find property in these towns for prices cheaper than Fairfax County. Communting into Mclean from these towns will still be realitively reasonable too.

Good Luck!
