I was watching a video of some of the planning for Y-town 2010. A few grad students in urban planning at kent were talking to southside residents about what they would like to see in the future. Once they mapped out most of the Southside they determined that over 70% of the area is vacant.

Here's a link to some on demand videos from PBS in NE OHIO. If you scroll down the page about halfway you will see some videos having to do w/the Youngstown 2010 plan.

I think they were just talking about the Oakhill neighborhood. The KSU grad students were only involved with that neighborhood.

If it was Oakhill, then I think it would be about 95% vacant! That whole area could be turned into farmland. Or maybe an extension of Mill Creek Park.

Your right, I remember seeing that study, but we were recently learning about the vacancy in Flint, Michigan.

Youngstown 2010 is a great plan for Youngstown. I can't wait to see more parks throughout the city, and not just parks, but more greenspace.

Also, about the revitalization in Youngstown, if you haven't been to the city for a couple years, visit downtown. The revitalization effort has started there, and downtown's come pretty far in just a few years.
My fiances family lives in Howland, we go there all the time. That's close enough for me.

So, if you don't actually enter Youngstown, how will you ever see any revitalization?

I don't think he said there was anything wrong w/the pics. He's just saying he doesn't want to go there, probably based on the Yo's reputation. Thankfully, downtown is actually quite nice and i've never felt scared there.
