About three years ago, I moved back to my home state of California from Ohio. That was 2006. At that time I had been living in Ohio for three years, and was not happy. I am a born and bred Californian who loves the outdoors, and plus my family and friends are all here. I posted on here a few years ago regarding the pros and cons of Ohio......three years later......I would be willing to live with the cons.

Cali wasn't in that bad of shape when I moved back. But we are now going through the worst budget crisis in history, industry and jobs are leaving the state a record numbers due to obscene taxes and over regulation by the state, our population of illegal immigrants has grown to outlandish numbers, which is putting a strain on our tax payers, and the cost of living as usual....continues to grow out of control. Everyone is broke and are losing their homes. The only people making any money here are celebrities and drug trafficers. Ok, maybe an exageration.....but it seems that way.

I do miss the quaint, midwestern feel of Wapakoneta. I miss the low cost of living, the school system, and the people that I met. I miss the large Victorian homes, the decent landlords who weren't slumlords, the slower pace and the overall politeness of the residents. True, there were some bad apples, but not nearly as many as I have encountered upon my return to a state that I no longer recognize as my home.

I would be willing to put up with the long winters and short summers again, and the city taxes....nothing compared to California's taxes, trust me.

I guess there is a price to pay for anywhere you live, in one form or another, but it is becoming unbearable here. I suppose I now have the proverbial tail between my legs, and am just another case of someone who had it pretty ok where I was, but didn't realize it at the time.

In conclusion, if I had the opporitunity, I would probably return to Ohio in a heartbeat.

You might have to look around the 3C's, but there are still some jobs available, just not many. If you look hard enough (try the newspapaer websites), you might find something.

This is unexpected. So much the other way around. I am from Ohio living in So.Cal and love Ohio. Would have been back years ago if I could. I am truly happy to hear of some one from California embarace the good that is in Ohio.

This is so interesting to hear - I have lived in OH my whole life, and really want to get out. My biggest problem with Ohio is the weather - too hot and humid in the summer and too cold in the winter. Plus, there aren't as many outdoors activities to do year round. I am thinking of going to either Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, Seattle, or Portland. Was the weather in Ohio a big problem for you?

Yes, the weather was an issue for me. For some reason, I have to have abundant days of Sunshine. I do enjoy the seasons changing, and like the rain and snow...to an extent...I do grow tired of it though when it goes on for months. Gray, overcast skies really suck in the summer time, which I was not used to in Ohio. I also did not like the flat, mountainless region of Ohio that I was in, with no water activities. Like I said, I grew up in the valley portion of California where any kind of outdoor activity could be had within an hour's drive. I especially love the river.

As for you moving out west....I would rethink Santa Cruz or Santa Rosa, unless you really have a good job set up before hand, as our economy is even worse than the rest of the country. Like I said....jobs here are dissappearing almost daily. We now have a large amount of "haves" and "have nots". Old money and people who are just lucky. Portland or Seattle might be a better choice. The weather sucks up there (I lived in Portland for six months) but the jobs are better, the air is cleaner, and there is a TON of outdoor activities....maybe not year round though. Good luck to whatever you choose.
