I wonder if the company wants people to think they are headquartered in some small Nebraska town they can relate with rather than a city as big as Omaha. This option might be cheaper than relocating...

Stupid proposal by an egotistical man.

Elkhorn would never have been annexed in the first place if their mayor had had a brain in his head.

And the city would have been land-locked to the west, unable to expand.

The people of Elkhorn need to just accept that's it's part of life and get on with it. I wish Omaha would annex my neighborhood...my taxes would go down, I wouldn't have to pay for my own garbage service and I might get a snowplow within 24 hours of a blizzard.

I really don't see the big deal of Elkhorn being independent, they still have their identity, business still identify themselves as being in Elkhorn, I know my church does. We would lose more from letting Elkhorn go than we would gain, we have to think long term, not short term.

I don't either, but since I don't live there, I can't really speak for the residents there. What I'm thinking is, Benson and Dundee were both cities that were annexed by Omaha and those residents still have a very strong identity and pride of living there.

I would think that Elkhorn residents would "band together" now that they're part of Omaha and need to stay close to protect that sense of community that they "cherish" so much.

Maybe that's just me...

In the paper, it said that someone offered to pay $3,000,000 for the de-annexation of Elkhorn. But wouldn't it cost a lot to de-annex? Maybe the same or more than it did to annex in the first place? In my opinion, the city should do nothing.
