I rode my bike from south Laguna to near John Wayne Airport every day for about three months. I would work out at a health club where I had a locker with suits in it, shower and then walk to work. I got into fabulous shape. The best physical condition I have even been in in my life. After a month or so, I could often beat my roomate to work if there was traffic (he drove). Two warnings:
1. Be very careful on the PCH bike trail. Some motorists think it is funny to swerve into the bike lane and scare you. Sometimes they hit you by mistake. Wherever you can, go parallel to cost highway on a side street. It is very dangerous.
2. When you ride your bike a lot, you have to do very heavy workouts to strengthen the opposite muscles around your knees. If you don't your muscles will build up on one side and actually torque your knees and really mess you up.
Funny story. A few months back at a beach party, a girl was talking with me saying "I love CA and if you are going to be one of those people that dont, you can just pack your bag..." Then she told me in a few minutes she never left CA before, ever! LOL!

ha yes, paradise rarely does exist. I've started a thread within the Orange County bit of the forum so as not to hijack your post robabeatle.
My line of work - have taught EFL, and worked in radio production, business research, admin and been a general all rounder in a social enterprise and a supper club. Have qualifications and experience in radio journalism. Have French language and computer skills, a good degree from reputable university...I'm just wondering if there are good websites to check out before I fly over and can go and job hunt in person.
Sorry, I can't help you there. I must also say that the wow-e- wow novelty wore off quickly for me. It still is a wonderful place but I have a much more realistic view now being here for a few months. Pluses and minuses like anywhere else, not really a paradise IMHO.
Wow, what happened? I just saw your thread and was so envious about your living on Crescent Bay, one of my very favorite spots. (I lived in Huntington Beach for two years.) Just curious on why the bloom is off the rose for you. I moved back after two years and am sometimes sorry I didn't give it more time out there. I do love my hometown, but I also miss that awesome SoCal weather.

Oh dear! that's pretty 'special'.
Whenever I mention that I'm visiting my grandmother and she lives in Laguna Beach, people here in the UK tend to have a view of it which is based on the TV show, i.e. lots of rich kids and not much else. I guess I've always just been for visits which feel like paradise after crazy London life but I'm sure that feeling can wear off.
