Hey all,

I recently was offered a new job in Irvine and i'm seriously considering it. I'm wondering what areas in OC are within a 30-45 minute commute to Irvine and affordable to lease a place at. No interest in buying as I'm a bit nomadic and would be surprised if I stay for more than a couple years.

Ideally i'd like something 2 bedroom (moving down with the girlfriend) and within a few miles of a beach. However, I don't really want to spend more than about $2200 a month, so I may have to settle for a 1 bedroom. I really like the looks of "downtown" Long Beach (we are in our late 20's, so would like a place where we could have easy access to grab drinks / restaurants), but from what i've heard the traffic from LB to Irvine is pretty bad and likely going to be a longer commute.

Any help would be appreciated.

Downtown Long Beach would not be a nice commute to Irvine. Look no further out than downtown Huntington Beach.

Yes. Long Beach to Irvine is a solid hour commute, if not longer. I would look in Huntington Beach or Costa Mesa.

try finding a place in downtown huntington beach. Its a great place for 20 somethings and you will find it quite easy to make new friends there. try to stay at least 8 blocks away from main street. although it can get fun, the party atmosphere gets old very quickly.

Costa Mesa / Newport Beach area would be my choice given your desire to be close to the beach and within 30-45 mins from Irvine.

Another vote for Costa Mesa; not nearly as pricey as HB, but still no more than 10-15 minutes from the beach.

I live in Laguna Hills, at the west end of Lake forest drive (ocean side). A condo here (2 bedroom 1 bath) just rented for $1695.00/mo. There are others for rent/lease. All are single level, with 2 car garages. I own mine, and if I step out my front door I can pick up a rock, throw it, and it will land in Irvine. It's a quiet community, but if I want night life, I can go where that is. I don't want to live in the middle of nightlife anyway.

Something to consider.
