Hey everybody, thnx in advance for your help. I would need to leave South OC every morning between 6 and 7 and would be driving back from LA between 3 and 5. I work in sales and would be covering everything from downtown LA and OC down to Anaheim. It includes, Santa Ana, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach and downtown LA. My territory does NOT include South OC unfortunately. I will NOT live in LA, no way. I would want to live in Laguna Niguel, maybe San Clemente, Ladera Ranch. Am i crazy, or is this possible??? Would my commute be 2-3 hours each way. please help? It has been a dream of mine to live in SOC, but maybe I should turn this job down. Thnx and God bless

Yes, you're crazy. There's some nice areas in north OC that would greatly lessen the commute.

Either could easily be an hour plus. There's just so many variables and opportunities for an accident, traffic stop, weather, etc to add to it. Plus, Laguna Niguel is mostly rather far from the freeway so you could spend another 20 minutes just getting to or from the 5.

We were living in Carlsbad when my DH got a fab job offer that would be in LA!

While we loved Carlsbad/San Diego after ONE month of commuting to LA via mostly Amtrak, my DH was physically exhausted. Two hour commutes each way was killing him.

We moved to the OC! (Like you we did not want to live in LA). Now he just walks one block to Amtrak/Metrolink and it's about a 35 minute train ride!

I would say try it but it really is a tough commute!

That's a big territory even if there was no traffic.

I go to LA twice a week from South OC. (Not as far South as San Clemente, think Ladera area.) If you leave by 6 you can be pretty much anywhere you want in LA by 7:30 or so. I don't mind the drive in at all, especially when Howard (Stern) isn't on vacation and I fire up the Sirius. Now the drive back, that's the tricky part. If you don't leave by 3, you are screwed. It's 2+ to get home then. But if you were spending a day or 2 in northern OC and then a day in the South Bay area and only going all the way into LA proper twice a week, it's totally doable. Again, that's as long as you have the discipline/ability to leave by 6. If you think you can do that, I say go for it. If you think you won't be leaving until 7, I say forget it. If you can get done what you have to get done so that you aren't leaving downtown LA after 3pm too often, it's totally doable
