Thank you everyone for their input.

Yeah I found a couple places in Cypress and Google Maps said the commute is around 15-17 mins to Kindred Hospital. Now with traffic I assume that would double making it a 30 min commute (give or take), correct?

Yeah I've been reading reviews about apartments in Santa Ana and a lot of people write about car break ins and roach infestation. Not really excited about that.

Can anyone give me feedback on Fountain Valley?

Fountain Valley is pretty nice and definitely safe. I don't know what the going rates are for apartments but I would assume Fountain Valley to be more expensive than Westminster, Cypress or Santa Ana based on the real estate price. If you can afford FV, then I would suggest that to be your first pick.

Again if you work in either Santa Ana or Westminster, then any of the cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Fountain Valley or even certain parts of Anaheim will do. Don't listen to most of the people who have never set foot in either of these cities who complain about it being too ethnic or "ghetto". I have lived all over Orange County my whole life and have spent a lot of times in these cities and never really felt unsafe. The truth is, Orange County for the most part with exception of some few cities have pockets of bad and good areas within the same city limits although Fountain Valley would be one of the exception as I can't think of a bad part within FV. So for the most part, you can't really say (insert city) is all good or all bad. You just have to research the area you want to live down to the exact neighborhood.

The reviews will always lean negative as people with good opinions won't take time to review. But remember, you get what you pay for.

There's plenty of good apartment complexes in Santa Ana, especially along MacArthur blvd.

YES, you've hit the nail right on the head. It's so ridiculous how many people cannot fathom this idea that cities of hundreds of thousands of people can have both good and bad pockets.

OP, you'll gain the most from this site by specifying neighborhoods that you are looking at in particular. Look at facts; find maps that shade areas of Orange County by crime rate/median home price/etc and narrow your search using that information. I did advocate Cypress as the best city for raising kids (among the three you listed), but if you look around Santa Ana and contiguous cities you'll definitely find great neighborhoods closer to where you work.

I doubt people who talk bad about Fountain Valley can even afford to buy a typical non-HOA home in that city for around $800k. The houses around Mile Square park can easily be a little more or less than $1 million. I notice the wealthy Vietnamese have started to settle in Fountain Valley since the last decade as supposed to just Westminster and Garden Grove in the past.

There is a new residential complex that has just been built a few hundred meters from Mile Square park and the homes have a starting price of $999,999.......despite of the fact that those homes will have the Santa Ana address instead of Fountain Valley

What corner is that on? East side? I have a buddy in Westminster who has houses built next to his and the starting price is 810,000. His area is safe. He's never had any issues. And he's been there for 20 years.

Between the corner of Edinger/Euclid & Euclid/McFadden there is a brand new residential complex with a starting price of $999,999 per home. These homes are walking distant from Fountain Valley's Mile Square park but with a Santa Ana address

There is a brand new built residential complex in Westminster between the corner of Bolsa/Brookhurst & Brookhurst/Hazard. I believe this is the area that your buddy is talking about
