We pay a ton of taxes where I am. We also have buses & some of the best schools in the country so I don’t particularly mind.

How does anyone who works deal with no buses? Seems crazy to me

Now, parents are expected to fairy their kids to/from school. This causes huge traffic problems around the schools at certain times.
I hope our taxes were reduced accordingly. I trust CA gov, I'm sure they did.

When I grew up in OC I lived 2 blocks form my school and ... could ride a bus to school every day.

It wasn't just for being a long way away, but safety as well.

Huh. Growing up in OC, we lived about 1/4 mile from the elementary school, and we walked. Every day. My mom would reluctantly drive us only if it was pouring rain.

We also had school buses and lots of kids did take them, but they were the kids who lived 1+ mile away. No one who only had to go a couple of blocks took the bus.

Go to any school where there is bus service.

The mommy mobiles are lined up. The buses come rolling in with just a couple of bouncing little heads.

No brainer to either eliminate private delivery and mandate everyone rides the bus when it is available, or do away with the buses and leave it to each child on how to get to school.

Oh well, maybe a different city where you lived.

Mind you in Jr High I walked home from school due to a sorta bully that drove me nuts. I walked about 1.5 miles. Took the bus to school.

Must have been. And maybe a different era? I was in elementary in the 1970s. Where I am now, there are elementary and middle schools within a 10 minute walk from my house, but I know there are kids in the neighborhood whose moms take them to school and pick them up.

Where I live a mile or more gets the bus from jr high upwards. Anyone in elementary can get it @ any distance

I’m in NY btw

I was in elementary in the 50's. By the 70's things changed.
