If you like small town coastal life, fishing, boats, dreary winters, summers full of traffic and tourists, and all that jazz, you'll love it. Especially if you're into fishing.

Tillamook and Astoria/Warrenton are about an hour away north and south, and Portland is about two hours away.

If I could earn a living there, I wouldn't mind living there actually.

As long as I wasn't "stuck" there year 'round.

Tillamook is only about 15 minutes south. You would find more housing and shopping options there and the commute would not be bad.

My parents had a place there from which they went fishing and crabbing. I visited it a few times, and thought it was a nice little town. Dh and I even looked at some homes and lots at the time, but decided against buying there simply because we weren't sure if that was the right direction for us. But it was a town we considered living in, because it seemed very down to earth, and not touristy.

My parents considered it very safe, but I don't know if that has changed over the last so many years.
