The area seems to have plenty to offer, is very inexpensive, has plenty of potential, and nobody really knows about it.

Will it become new "Trendy City" of the west coast?

I invite people wanting to move to Oregon to do their research!
It seems like there is a ton of interest in the area lately!

A Gold Mine?

Given the rough weather and lack of jobs I doubt it. Bend wouldn't have become what it is without the dry climate and nearby mountains.

We like to stop by there when driving back from a road trip, quaint little town, but seems very depressed, vacant businesses and no big employers. Looking it up, 18% of the population is below the poverty line.

Depends on your definition. Crescent City, CA is a coastal town in CA, that is extremely cheap. Is it cheap because nobody has discovered it yet? No. It's extremely cheap because the weather is pretty terrible, and it's really isolated from most amenities most people desire, like good healthcare, entertainment, airports, etc.

There isn't any secret place with decent amenities that's cheap. So, when you look at any place that's cheap, you need to look at what's missing and see if it matters to you.

When thinking about the Oregon coast, I prefer the Newport area and the north coast including Nehalem, and Astoria. I don't think their nearly as depressed as Coos bay/North bend.

This reminds me of how many time I have heard "Klamath Falls is the next Bend" - hmm, must be time for another recession to knock that one down (someone actually said that to me last week). Right on schedule, too - 1981, 2007 ..... 2018?

Ah, Hidden Gems. Langlois. Pistol River. Remote. Agnes. Most people in the 21st century don't have the skill set to prosper there.

I think Coos Bay has a ton of potential just like I think Klamath Falls does, but it requires a visionary local government that decides that it wants to go for improvement and figure out how they want to improve their local economy. I don't see it going trendy anytime soon.

This I can agree with. Right on I-5, parts of it are quaint, not a terrible distance to cities, coast, and mountains.
