Hi Matt:

Welcome to the club of Californians moving to Oregon. So much has been written about the Oregon coast and it is easy to find by clicking on Search above and type in Oregon Coast and you will get many fine answers from many different people.

The big problem for you is finding meaningful work or gainful employment that will pay enough to make you happy. Steve here on the forum lives in Brookings, my favorite Oregon coastal destination. The problem is that retirees inhabit the coast in large numbers. If you are in the medical profession, you will do just fine.

Good luck to you!

Dan

Hi Matt, I live in the Coos Bay area (upper southern Ore. coast) and for the most part, love it. - before we moved here (from the outer Portland area) we visited up and down the coast several times, and my husband went in and talked to various companies where he would be qualified to work to find out about job availability/stability/pay/benifits/etc. - talked a lot to people around town that actually lived there/here. (You'll find if youre non-threatening and open, most people will sit there and be happy to yap w/ya all day. lol. Try a checkout lane, Ive met more friends in checkout lanes, i swear! lol) Just do a lot of research and footwork. Spend whatever time you can not in just the touristy areas, but downtown, around the neighborhoods, mom/pop stores. Good luck to ya and feel free to pm me, or write it up here in the forum and I'll help you if I can.
Tiffany

Just be sure to be friendly with the people you meet, no matter how they might seem snooty. There is some serious anti-California sentiment up there (much like there is in Phoenix) due to that SoCal mentality and feelings of being invaded!

Escape from California! Find clean air and short commutes! Haha.
