Speaking of 'you can't fix stupid', the evidently three kayakers choose to use a 2-person boat on the Columbia River and drowned last week. One female body has been found, two males are missing. The found body was wearing a life jacket, odds are the other two weren't.

Isn't United Rentals going to want that thing back at some point? Just wondering...

We went to the dunes at Moses Lake,WA one memorial day weekend and that's where I learned a whole bunch of what STUPID really means, it's also where my then 12 year old son saw his first topless (drunk) teen girl.
I talked to one of the deputies patrolling the dunes and got quite the education. If I remember correctly there were 4 of them to try and control about 5000+ people of all stripes so most everything was ignored unless it was likely to cause death or really severe injury, they even had a helo on standby for hospital runs and it was busy, busy.

Steve, as your OP suggests, I think it is a great idea for anyone who is serious about riding motorcycles. I've taken the Team Oregon classes and I think they are pretty good classes. This isn't going to stop people from riding who are not endorsed or is it going to stop people from riding motorcycles at break neck speeds, stupid is as stupid does. I've been a motorcycle rider for many years, now if we can only educate the people who drive cars that motorcycles also have a right to the road.

So did I ... 20 years ago, when I was living in Portland. And in 20 years I've only had one extremely minor 10mph "crash" (it was hardly worthy of the term).

Out of curiosity, will Oregon recognize out-of-state moto endorsements or would I -- theoretically -- have to take the rider course again even though I still have my original card indicating that I took it in 1991?

If you had an Oregon and you left the state you will need to do it all again. If you never had an Oregon you will also need to take the course. No Oregon does not recognize out of state for anyone. You might call and ask if your Foundation Card is still good. It may be.

I did hear a member of our club let his license endorsement lapse and he had never taken the course He was requierd because of his age to take the course. There are also some riders reporting they had short term suspentions which required them to take the course to get their endorsements back, but I have not verified that claim with anyone at state.

Hmmm, after looking through the DMV site at what's required if we move there from out of state I see that good old special Oregon DMV must know more than any other state in the nation.

I can't believe I'm going to have to redo my class D and M if I want to transfer from AZ to Or. I've probably been licensed for motorcycles longer than the majority of the DMV employees have been old enough to work and longer than many have even been breathing.
Ridiculous.

Jeez, and I thought it was bad when Washington made me re-take the road skills test.

I'm about 30-70 in favor of moving back; this moves me to 28-72.

FTR, when I eventually moved to California, not only did they accept my Oregon endorsement, but they even upgraded it to a 'full' license -- at the time, Oregon had tiered licensing and the cutoff was 250cc. My license OR was valid for 250 and under only, but in CA the cutoff was only 50cc, and I successfully convinced the CA DMV lady to let me have a full unrestricted CA endorsement. "Go out and get yourself a hog," she said.

(I didn't, but appreciated the thought anyway.)
