That's between Medford and Grants Pass. The little bit closer to the ocean helps keep the weather moderated.

I have been doing a bit of research on high schools, my son will be a senior next year. He is a good student, AP classes and such and is looking for a 4 year university after hs. So, I'm seeing 3 regular high schools and a charter school... with South Medford HS with the highest rankings. Can anyone give me any insight on this? and what kind of neighborhood is it in?

i used to live in southern oregon (grants pass and rogue river) for awhile and moved to the portland area, a mistake for me, i miss the smaller aspect plus the closeness to the redwoods. portland is probably great for younger people but too hectic and crowded for me so i'm trying to find work in southern oregon again. anyway i think you'll love southern oregon, you've got crater lake and klamath falls not far to the east and the redwoods and crescent city just over 2 hours to the west, plus not many crowds anywhere. it does get hot in the summer, often 90's and even ocational 100 but it's a dry heat mostly, the winters are chilly but not bad especially coming from wisconsin. medford only averages 20 inches of rain with many more sunny days than portland so that is a plus i think. any ?'s, feel free and good luck.

I don't know much about the quality of the schools, but I can at least spotlight the neighborhoods.

Up on the Medford MailTribune (the local newspaper) website, if you click on NEWS then CRIME, it will show you a Crime Mapper and you can look at some of the areas. The problem with the tool is that, while it breaks down the crimes by category, it doesn't break them down by severity.

The area right around South Medford High is not too bad, particularly to the south of the campus. It's also mostly cookie-cutter 80s and 90s subdivisions. In general, East Medford (defined by the area east of I5) is a better area with more variety of housing. It's also more expensive. I don't know where the boundary for the division between North and South Medford High is - I think it might be E. Jackson Street.
