Reasonable rents and probably more availability than La Grande (I've heard people say it's impossible to find a place to rent in La Grande). I can't speak for the job market, but you said service industry, and it seems like the Geiser Grand hires a lot of people.

Honestly, for what you describe, I'd take a look at the Tri Cities WA. You said OR but it is right across the border and I think you will find a better combination of lower cost and economic opportunity there than any place in OR I can think of. And it is as close to Portland as some of the other suggestions here.

Plus you should find very robust internet out there as well.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm staying in OR. Do you know what city in OR might offer the best combination of what I'm looking for even if not as ideal/optimal as the tri cities you suggested ?

Also any experiences living in some of the smaller towns that have been suggested already ? really trying to get any last minute info before I make make a final decision.

Thanks!

Are you moving immediately before finding a job? Just curious if you’ve looked at job and rental sites for each of the cities to see which ones you could eliminate yourself because of low opportunity, too expensive, no high speed internet, etc.

What job and rental sites do you suggest that I look at ?

I've only looked at Craigslist and eastern oregon is by far the cheapest. I've seen 1 bedroom apartments going for $700 there .. everywhere else in oregon a 1 BR is $1200+

I have noticed For Rent signs around Baker City, so rentals are available.

The grocery stores and Bi Mart often have help wanted signs at their entrances.

Marvin Wood products is often hiring: https://www3.marvin.com/careers/loca...enu=baker-city

You can always check the State of Oregon: https://secure.emp.state.or.us/jobs/...lang=E&start=1

The closest major city is Boise, a two hour drive.

I am posting to bump this thread, as I am very interested in what people have to say about the Hermiston/Pendleton area. Thank you.
