I am looking for any spot that has decent temperatures for swimming on the Oregon coast--hopefully at least 65 in summer. Most open ocean temperatures are much cooler but I'm specifically wondering about some of the inlets, like around Coos Bay, Reedsport, Tillamook, the mouth of the Columbia at Astoria, etc. Would you want to actually swim IN Coos Bay? Also how about around the bend on the southern part of the coast (Brookings / Gold Beach area)? Can you swim in these inlets or are they mostly industrial?

I have looked at plenty of water temperature data and almost all of the readings are cooler because they are taken directly on the ocean beach, not in the inlets, except Astoria which I frequently see at 68, 70 and above this summer. Also recommendations for other swimming spots across the state are welcome too! Thanks

We usually don't swim in the ocean here. Surfers use wetsuits. The inlets and bays aren't any warmer because the rivers that feed them are cold.
If you're not set on saltwater, The inland dune lakes around Florence, lake Cleawox in particular, are beautiful. Too cold for some people, but you might dig it. The tall golden dunes coming right down into the water is a magical experience. The water is deep, clean and tea-colored from leaf tannins. Go to Honeyman State Park day use area sounth of Florence and check it out. Canoe rentals too, no motorboats. Dune lakes!

The Pacific Ocean currents on the West Coast flow North to South. They're picking up all that cold water from the Arctic and Alaska.

As mentioned above, hit the inner lakes. You might also go for some of the higher rivers such as Smith River outside of Reedsport. It's spring fed so is warmer then many other rivers.

Some of my worst (and best) memories are trying to swim in the Coquille River.

The Siuslaw ( enters the ocean at Florence) is also a non-snow fed river. It's in my front yard and GREAT for swimming.

Ha ha! Not here!! I tried foolishly to get into the Puget Sound once. Only for the hardiest of souls. Better get on down to the Gulf Coast for warm water swimming.
