I'll be leaving as soon as I can.

This is an absolutely awful state with a Socialist government and Socialist residents that do stupid things like increase taxes on businesses during a recession. Measures 66 and 67 which increase taxes on those earning over $250,000 and for all businesses just passed. This state completely discourages any sort business to come because they will just take all your money and give it to people who don't do jack squat.

Because of 66 and 67, the wealthiest residents will pack up and leave as will businesses. Unemployment will continue to skyrocket and the state will be bankrupt with no income because they are against any sort of business.

I have lived here my whole life and can't wait to leave. This is an absolute crap hole of a state run by corrupt politicians voted by Socialists. If you have a shred of sense in your brain, don't come to Oregon. They will take your hard earned money and give it to those who believe they are entitled to what you have earned.

To Hell with Oregon. I'm gone.

Back in the 80's Oregon used to have a slogan, "open for business".

I'm afraid that is long gone, and with the results of 66-67 tonight, not going to be back anytime soon.

I left Oregon five years ago. I'm not looking back.

It is unfortunate the these two measures passed, in Southern Oregon and Central Oregon they failed, but seeing how the majority of the population lives north of Roseburg there isn't much we can do about it. I think we need to have a measure to apply these new taxes on a county by county bases.

My understanding is that the business tax has gone from $1 per year to $150.
If you are in business, and can't afford that to support the state education and other systems, you are not much of a bussiness. And some income taxes for those earning over $250k. I'll pay a bit for a better state, with improved infrastructure. Why are you so selfish that you can't see the future good some influx of money will do for the state? are you afraid those big bad poor people will get some of your money? Oh how horrible. Maybe you should move to Nevada. They like people like you.

It will become just like its sister CA, a bastion of white trash and welfare receivers. Most of you who are the earners and providers will continue to face huge budget shortfalls and higher taxes. Tell me tilegirl how much poverty you can import and feed before you take a cut?

I am proud and very glad the two tax measures passed. The two measures passed by the overwhelming voter power of the City of Portland and Multnomah county.

Question not the voters of Portland, but ask about the political tactics of the Anti-Tax people who would allow such a vote to happen in the first place. Do the political strategist not understand Portland and the power of Portland's current voter strength? As previously posted: stop watching Fox News, and read the Portland newspaper once and awhile. Seriously, read the newspaper; ah, that is the Oregonian newspaper, not that other paper from the publisher in Vancouver, WA.

And the recall of Portland's mayor will be defeated in the end also. Because the big push for his recall are from the conservatives in the suburbs, which of course will anger the voters in the city of Portland. Another good (meaning strong and forceful) push to expand the political gap between Portland and Multnomah county with Portland's southern suburbs in Clackamas county. Washington County to Portland's west, is now almost as liberal as Multnomah per the tax measures voting.

No that's not true. As someone who worked as a child and family therapist in social programs for 15 years and now a business owner I see both sides...here's the deal.

There are several types of companies. PC, LLC (myself), and S corps all pass our profits through on personal income taxes. So in the past I paid the $10 business surcharge AND 9% on all my profit because that is my income tax bracket. There was this huge misinformation campaign out there that business owner's don't pay tax. NOT TRUE. Just what category our taxes go into is different.

Measure 67 doesn't impact me personally because I am an LLC. No one cares about the $10 to $150 raise. That was not and has never been the issue. I like all of my business counterparts will continue to PAY TAX on all my profits...it just gets categorized as income tax and not corporate tax. About 50% of Oregon business' fall into this category like me. Seriously...we pay taxes. 9% in fact.

Measure 67 was about C Corporations. Companies that have more investors or don't qualify to be and LLC or S are C corporations. These companies don't pass their profits through on personal income tax statements, but are subject to the corporate tax rate. The issue for the C corps is that it wasn't just a raise from $10 to $150...it was the text AFTER that that had business owners up in arms. The issue for the bill was taxing revenues and not profits. I know it is hard for people that have never owned a business, but 6 in 7 business's fail. FAIL. It is not easy to run a business and I have worked more hours in the past year than I thought possible. So while people are focusing on the $10 to $150 people aren't understanding that the number doesn't stop at $150, it goes up to $100,000.

If the legislature had made it a tax on profits...this would never have gone to vote. If the Legislature had made it temporary for two years. It would never have gone to vote. Seriously, as a business owner, I can't think of anything more moronic than taxing the revenues of a business and not it's profits.

I'm a democrat and I voted against it not because I don't see the school my 7 and 9 year old go to struggling. I voted against it because heading down that path of taxing revenues is such bad tax policy, I can't in good faith encourage our government to go there.

I totally disagree with the OP that Oregon is a socialist state and am sad that you see it that way. Oregon has some serious ills and fear mongoring and misinformation by both sides during this ballot was horrible. Running a business is so much harder than people think it is. That lack of understanding and appreciation is what is splintering Oregon.
