So you posted at 3:40 in the morning and were stunned when you didn't get immediate replies?

Generally speaking the cheapest option will be to go to a community college like Chemeketa, Linn-Benton, Portland Community College first, then transfer credits over to one of the state schools (Portland State, Western Oregon, OSU, U of O, etc). There is financial aid and scholarships if they don't have a lot of money.

BUT...many of the private schools have large endowments and it can actually be cheaper to go to one of them if they qualify for those school scholarships. It also makes no sense to just go to the cheapest school and get a random bachelor's degree. Schools have their strengths and if you are going to spend time going to college at least get a meaningful degree that will help with employment.

Silverfall made some very good points.

Also, Eastern Oregon University does not charge out of state tuition, and I don't think they charge anything addtional for international students either. At least, from their website I couldn't gather that they did.

I am not familiar about other community colleges/universities in the state of Oregon except for Western Oregon University (WOU) in Monmouth about 30 minutes southwest from Salem.

I don't know what is your major of interest but WOU has really good education program and graduate school in Music, History, and Rehabilitation Counseling.

I will be starting my masters in Rehabilitation Counseling in Deafness in fall.

Costs for WOU:

In-State Residents: $6,800.00

Out-of-State Residents including Int'l Students:

$15,800 to $18,500 depending if you are living on-campus or off-campus.

If you are interested in obtaining more information about WOU, you can always check out www.wou.edu.

Good luck on your education search & living in Oregon!
