Publix lunch meat is not anywhere near the price you quote, and they don't mark up the BOGO's. I'm not sure where you get this info, but it is patently false.

I am no fan of Wal-Mart but I agree wholeheartedly with those who say that this is a free country and nobody has to shop or work at WM against their will. Obviously lots of people choose to patronize them and therefore they are the largest retailer in the world.

And my personal gripe is as follows:

If you think that an entry level clerk at Wal-Mart should make a livable salary then I feel sorry for your family due to your lack of ambition. Those kinds of jobs (and minimum wage in general) should be the motivation hard workers need to rise above and become managers or whatnot to increase their skill set and value. Even if a law were passed tomorrow to make these people earn $15 per hour pre-tax, they would still be living meager lives and prices would go up since the company would be paying more so the inflation factor kinda makes that whole argument seem silly.

Too much common sense for this thread

I like Publix, buy fresh items there, milk, ice cream, and buy the rest at Walmart. I hate the service at WM, always long lines to check out, shelves empty. Publix is in a great location for me, I can walk there, always clean, plenty of help, never wait
long to check out, very clean and organized shelves.

I'm not an idiot--those who support Wal-Mart and then cry because they can't find a job are the idiots. I'd rather pay more and have ethical employers who source goods made with sustainable and fair labor practices.

Walmart doesn't run mom and pops out of business: consumers do.

The consumers can choose higher prices with personal service (mom and pops) or they could choose lower prices with no service (walmart).

It seems just about everywhere, they choose the latter.

annerk, I did not post this, but You make enough money to shop at Publix, good for you, but quit knocking Walmart which has saved my family thousands of dollars over the years and is a one stop place, thus not paying for gas, running all over looking for items!

They might not mark up their bogos but they are higher priced than Target and Walmart. No excuse for this, since they buy by the volume and have a monopoly here and can comparison shop and give the same prices!

Yes it is, besides the fact, time is money. Save that way too.
