We need to decide if we want a pool home or not and really would like to know from someone who has a pool/hot tub how much does the upkeep and electric really cost on a monthly basis?

I would try and get a home that includes pool care, but may not so I'd love to know ~

♦How much is pool care monthly?
♦How much is your electric for an unheated pool and hot tub (heated I know, lol)
♦How much for a heated pool and hot tub
♦Any other expenses I need to know about...

Thanks in Advance

If you hire a pool company, plan on $80-100 a month. If you do it yourself, $20-40 a month, depending on the type of filter you have.

Electric for an unheated pool is $40-120 a month, depending on the size of the pool and various features, plus who your power company is.

Electric for a heated pool also varies by the size of the pool, if you use a solar cover, and if you plan on heating in the winter. My nbeighbors accidently left their pool heat on in Febraury and went away for a month. They got a $1000 bill that month.

Thanks for the info. I think I may pass on the pool. If I did have one I would definitely want it to be a salt water pool. I wonder how you can convert it, or can you ?

Salt conversion would cost about $1500-$2000. The salt generator gets plumbed in on the return line after the filter. A control box is mounted next to the timer. Depending on water hardness, the generator needs to be removed(unscrew 2 unions) and cleaned monthly-ish. You will save money on chemicals but these units tend to have a short lifespan(4 years).
