Today in History:
1839
- 1st baseball game played in America. According to legend, Abner Doubleday, who later became a major name in book publishing, created the game we know as baseball. It happened in Cooperstown, NY which, what do you know, is the present home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
1849 - Gas mask patented by Lewis Haslett, Louisville, Kentucky
1923 - Harry Houdini, while in a straitjacket, suspended 40 feet in the air, amazed a large and quite disbelieving audience as he freed himself of the constraints.
1935 - Senator Huey Long of Louisiana spoke continually for 15 hours in Senate's longest speech on record (150,000 words) I think my DIL can beat that.
1948 -"William Tell Overture" by Spike Jones peaks at #6 Bet I am one of the few here who remember him and know what his band sounded like
1965 - Sonny and Cher make their 1st TV appearance, "American Bandstand"

Word of the Day:

juggernaut \JUHG-er-nawt\ , noun;
1. Any large, overpowering, destructive force.
2. Something, such as a belief or institution, that elicits blind and destructive devotion.

Good morning aLLyaLL, happy Saturday!!! I think I may sacrifice the sense of smell b/c I think it would not be as inconvenient as for the limited amount of time. The extra credit question sounds familiar, but I can't remember how I answered. I know I gave a good answer though. Tenni-shoes. There too many houses for me to count, I have moved a lot and no magic.

Happy Saturday
Same to you
It is going to be another scorcher today in NEFL 96 with a heat index of 106
Cold and overcast in the desert - remind me of this wonderful cool weather later please!

But before I can do that I have to ask
Today's Question:
If you had to give up one of your 5 senses for 24 hours, which would you chose ?
Taste
Why did you chose that one ?
For 24 hours, I would eat all the foods that I hate and are supposedly 'good for me'.

Extra Credit Question:
What was the last thing that had you saying "That was the best $_____ I ever spent"
I replaced the house AC/heating unit when everyone and their brother was offering rebates. The drop in my monthly bill was science-fictional. Paid for itself in about 5 years!

Bonus Question:
Have you ever gone:
Strawberry picking
Blueberry picking
Apple Picking
Yes to all. Plus lots of others, gleaning fields

Just for Fun:
Do you call them Sneakers or Tennis shoes ?
Tennis shoes
How many houses are in your neighborhood ?
Maybe 12 to 15 houses on my street. No 'neighborhoods' here.
How many times have you moved in your life ?
Moved around a lot from age 17 to 29. Too many to count.
Have moved twice since then

Can you or have you ever tried to do any Magic Tricks ?
Magic tricks have never interested me at all.

Today in History:
1948 -"William Tell Overture" by Spike Jones peaks at #6 The Lone Ranger theme song!
1965 - Sonny and Cher make their 1st TV appearance, "American Bandstand" I got you, babe ....

Today's Question:

If you had to give up one of your 5 senses for 24 hours, which would you chose?

The sense of smell.

Why did you chose that one?

Because it already happens to me regularly anyway (allergies) and I know I can deal with it.

Extra Credit Question:

What was the last thing that had you saying "That was the best $
I'm not going to tell you how much I ever spent"

I made a winning bid in an online fundraising auction to help defray the cost of a liver transplant for a dear friend. My friend's liver transplant fund got a nice hefty donation as a result of my winning bid, and I got the *most incredible* piece of wearable art I have ever seen. Some time I'll try to post a photo here.

Bonus Question:

Have you ever gone:
Strawberry picking
Yup!
Blueberry picking Yup!
Apple Picking Yup!

Just for Fun:

Do you call them Sneakers or Tennis shoes?

I generally call them tennies.

How many houses are in your neighborhood?

Oh, goodness, I've never counted. There are probably 25 or 30 on my street (which is two blocks long).

How many times have you moved in your life?

I can recall ten times, most of them when I was between the ages of 18 and 25.

Can you or have you ever tried to do any Magic Tricks?

I'm really good at making money disappear - does that count?

Today's Question:

If you had to give up one of your 5 senses for 24 hours, which would you chose ?

Sense of smell.

Why did you chose that one ?

It seems to me it would have the least impact on relationships; altho all our sense are important in keeping us safe......to give up any of them would put us at risk.

Extra Credit Question:

What was the last thing that had you saying "That was the best $_____ I ever spent"

I am not coming up with anything recent....and not sure I have really ever said that.....but the fee for the dating service that introduced me to my Dear Partner....would definately be the winner.

Bonus Question:

Have you ever gone:
Strawberry picking Yes
Blueberry picking Yes
Apple Picking Yes

Just for Fun:

Do you call them Sneakers or Tennis shoes ?
I use both terms.....we moved around when I was growing up and got used to both terms and now I use both interchangably. Since gymnasiums are an anathema to me....I prefer "sneakers".....it is a fun term and doesnt have the baggage of gym class.
How many houses are in your neighborhood ?
24 or 25
How many times have you moved in your life ?
At least 22 times.

Can you or have you ever tried to do any Magic Tricks ?
Did you see the card trick...."4 Jacks going to rob a house."

Today's Question:

If you had to give up one of your 5 senses for 24 hours, which would you chose ? Smell

Why did you chose that one ? It seemed to be the least inconvenient one to give up.

Extra Credit Question:

What was the last thing that had you saying "That was the best $_____ I ever spent" Fence at my previous home

Bonus Question:

Have you ever gone:
Strawberry picking
Blueberry picking
Apple Picking

None of the above but I love eating the fruits of someone else's labor

Just for Fun:

Do you call them Sneakers or Tennis shoes ? Well to me a sneaker is more of a workout shoe (Nike, Reebok) and a tennis shoe is more of a casual shoe (Keds, Vans)

How many houses are in your neighborhood ? About 35-40

How many times have you moved in your life ? Too many to count

Can you or have you ever tried to do any Magic Tricks ? Yes but David Copperfield wasn't impressed
