The last persons I shared a handshake with was a couple of Marines. One was hot and the other was not. I don't buy souvenirs, it's been summer weather in my neck of the woods for months now and yes the temps r high and we have about 12-14 hours of daylight. The lights went out at may house last week, but it was during the day. If they go out at night I use candles. In my area the custom for furniture, appliance delivery movers and counter service at the local coffee shop all depends on one's preference. I prefer the convenience of service every time... Well aLLyaLL have a beautiful day .

Dr. Pepper was invented today. I'm a pepper, you're a pepper, wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?

Today's Question(s):

This subject came up at dinner the other night, so I thought it would be interesting to see what is done in different parts of the country

Is it customary in your area to tip for the following:

Furniture delivery ?
Appliance delivery & set up ?
Moving men ?
Coffee shop counter service ?

I wouldn't know. The last time I moved, we did it ourselves with a U-Haul. Last time I bought an appliance, I brought it home myself. The last time I went to a coffee shop was years ago, unless you count standing in line at Caribou Coffee. I'm not going to tip someone when I had to stand in line.

Extra Credit Question:

When was the last time the power went out at your home ?

The blizzards last winter.

When this happens do you use flashlights or candles ?

Both.

Bonus Question:

How many hours of daylight do you have each day ?

No matter how much it is, I can always use a little more.

Just for Fun:

On this "First day of Summer" - what is your expected high temperature ?

We're hitting the upper 80's today.

Is there one "souvenir" you always buy when on a trip ?

Coffee cup.

Who was the last person you shared a handshake with ?
[/b]

Some new people who came to our neighborhood BBQ yesterday.

I have no clue what's "customary" where I live. I don't think Miami has a uniting set of customs, there are just too many different nationalities here. I did tip the guy who installed our new dishwasher a couple years ago and will drop the coins from my coffee change into the tip jar.

Extra Credit Question:

When was the last time the power went out at your home ?
Hurricane Wilma

When this happens do you use flashlights or candles ?
Flashlights

Bonus Question:

How many hours of daylight do you have each day ?
You know, I never gave this any thought. Probably about 12-13. Since we're far south, there's not as dramatic a fluctuation in the amount of daylight as there would be in, say, Montana.

Just for Fun:

On this "First day of Summer" - what is your expected high temperature ?
High 89, low 81, 70% humidity. Yuck.

Is there one "souvenir" you always buy when on a trip ?
Fridge magnets. They take up very little space and they make great gifts.

Who was the last person you shared a handshake with ?
A speaker from the University of Rhode Island who came to the university to give a lecture.

Is it customary in your area to tip for the following:

Furniture delivery ?

If I paid the $30 fee for delivery.....I don't tip....unless the guys do something above and beyond the delivery.
Appliance delivery & set up ?

When we moved here and bought a house and purchased all the appliances at one time, at a family owned business.....I didnt tip....the guys who set it up were family members or long long time employees.....it was at a time business was bad.....I really think they didnt expect it...as their prices were a bit above the outlet stores and they advertised SERVICE....as the specialty of the store.
Moving men ?

I tipped the cross country moving men.

Coffee shop counter service ?

I put a small tip in the jar at the coffee place if they have one out.

Extra Credit Question:

When was the last time the power went out at your home ?

This past winter in a snow storm that brought power lines down.....power goes out pretty frequently around here......4 or 5 times a year.

When this happens do you use flashlights or candles ?
Oil lamps, candles and one flashlight to find them. We have a gas fireplace that also makes the family room cozy.

Just for Fun:

On this "First day of Summer" - what is your expected high temperature ?

84 degrees...bright sunshine.

Is there one "souvenir" you always buy when on a trip ?

No...we don't buy shot glasses or spoons or those type of collectables.....when we are in Japan we do tend to buy some Nekko (lucky cats)....if we see something unique.

Who was the last person you shared a handshake with ?

Yesterday at church I shook hands with the minister and about 10 other people.
