Yeah, I know what you meant. I sometimes put a lots of time and effort to get the best response, especially if this is related with searching the net, and yes... I am sometimes upset when the OP never comes back to check on the comments.
Sometimes I just think, that OP registered to post a question, and then forgot about it, or forgot the login, or posted the same question in many different forums, and got confused. But it surely hate to dedicate my time for nothing.
Yes OP, one of my CD pet peeves, like others said you try to help, you answer their question(s), you find the sources for them and then nothing. Wasted time.
I agree with the comments above. I take my responses seriously also... well, most of the time! I think about the best and most helpful way to respond and it's a real disappointment when my post just hangs there in cyberspace!!
though I do check the stats of the OP to see how long they've been member & how many posts they have,
when deciding whether or not to even bother replying
(I can get some sense of whether it's a "one-off" and they won't be back to follow up).
I've begun fewer than ten threads, two of those are QOTD in which the purpose is getting others to respond.
Generally, I don't start threads with my own question & then just abandon them,
but it does require others to chime in (so that I'm not the only person commenting to my own thread).
So, if a thread sinks like a stone, isn't responded to, there isn't much for me to do to try resuscitating it.

That is such a good idea. I try to remember to do that, but usually forget!

What is QOTD?

Right. That's responsible (and polite)... and thank you! My prob is when a thread goes up and there are a bunch of responses, but no OP!
Gee this quote thing is tricky! (Off topic!) Can't save my response unless I add more to the bottom, so here it is!
