Surprised by the randomness of the censorship. There are threads open with dozen of offensive and belligerent post and then some shut down after a post or two without explanation.
Also surprised by all the cyber psychologist and their some times stellar and others sometimes scary advice. Even more surprising are the number of people who acknowledge needing professional help yet still seek out consults on line.

What I've hated the most about forums and online chats is that people will say things they would never say to someones face. It brings out the cowardly mean people that hide behind the anonymous nature of the internet. Forums can also show the struggles people must endure and it's often loneliness that bring them to these online sites. There are those that turn to strangers on forums and talk of hurts, hardships and very personal things, sometimes only to be ridiculed and shown no empathy at all. Still many take the risk because they want someone to understand and care and they are missing that in their off line real life. I find it sad there are so many people lonely and struggling everyday. It makes me furious at people that treat those needing support so atrociously. Better to say nothing than try to make someone feeling bad, feel worse still. Then there are the know it all's, they become the expert even if they haven't any idea of the illness or topic. Overbearing and react in a rude manner if challenged. I doubt most would be so brazen face to face.
People may look to others versus "professional help" as they want to be able to relate to someone that has been through something similar. Psychologists and shrinks are book trained, they pass out pills and advice not based on dealing with the issues themselves and knowing the feelings firsthand. Those ya might find on certain sections of the forums maybe able to relate better to the individual due to having felt the same way. And in the middle of the night ya can't call one of these professionals, so people will post on dedicated forums looking for understanding and support. There are trolls about that shouldn't be giving advice or even be on the forums.
I've learned that the ignore list can be very useful, but annoying in that it still gives you the option to reveal the post of someone on it, which causes me to sometimes give in to temptation and look at it when I don't want to see what they are posting.
I've learned to value my inner equilibrium...to simply pass over posters that
seem to want to start something, when there isn't anything that needs to be 'started'.
Peace of mind and calmness in my chest is sweeter than opening to antagonists.
I learned that there are very nice genuine people in the forum just like the real world. I see a lot of people everyday. I am constantly networking. I am here because I want to relax and not argue with folks that I will never see. It's hard to understand them and you cant figure them out or help them if they just want to argue. You can't see them.So why ague with them?

I have learned that there are people out there like Izzy that I love and for whom I have great respect. Even though I may never meet them, it is a blessing to have met them.
