OH, NUTS!
Want hedge a bet that you'll live longer than your peers? One way you may be able to add years to your life is to eat nuts. Yep. Delicious, crunchy, scrumptious nuts!
For many years, the medical community has told us that nuts are good for us. Now there's even more evidence. A study of 119,000 people recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine reveals that people who ate one ounce of nuts (approximately 25 almonds or 50 pistachios) each day lived longer than those who didn't eat nuts.
Nuts are loaded with healthful unsaturated fats. These can lower your cholesterol, reduce inflammation, reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and more. Nuts taste indulgent, but you don't have to feel guilty when you eat them.

The cost of living just got nuttier! (Approximately 25 almonds or 50 pistachios) a day seems like a lot. My kind of crazy though. I love nuts and my dog does too. He was raised in a yard with pecans everywhere. Now he's always searching for nuts in our yard. I shell a few pecans for him occasionally. Great tip Pam!
Good advice. Nuts are fattening, true, but it's good, heart-healthy fat (unsaturated). A handful of nuts is not only a tasty snack but also nutritious and filling, which is something you can't say about junk food.
I understand that this study came from the New England Journal of Medicine but so {{{what!}}} ………. When I was young and growing up in the small town the entire city had been built in a forest of walnut trees. And I can say for certain that over all those years I know of more than 119 squirrels that were healthy eating walnuts. However when they ran across the street to the neighbors trees for more nuts they didn’t make it. There were dead squirrels in the street all the time, lesson learned –
I toss nuts in my smoothies when blending them and they are wonderful.
Something else I do when baking is grind the nuts into almost a powder and add them to whatever I am baking.
I do this because my husband does not like nuts in baked goods however, when I grind them very fine and add them the flavor of the nut is added without the big chunks of nut that he does not like.
PS ~~ My honey is 61 today (way older than me....LOL)
I agree with your hubby CSD610-I don't like nuts in baked goods either. I like nuts, just not in stuff.
Happy birthday to him. (He's way younger than me.)
Gee, I actually like something that's healthy. Imagine that.

Great tip PJ... I've heard this often, so they must really be beneficial! Problem is, I really only care for cashews and pecans, do ya think these help, too?
