When I were a Lad..... We did not yet have TV in New Zealand, Milk was still delivered to the gate in 'billies', everyone on the radio liked to pretend they were English. I was strapped (corporally punished) for being left-handed.
I'm so old I remember... When all meat lunch and table meats where cut and wrapped by the butcher in a semi-red paper and taped or string was used too seal it.
I remember when service stations (gas stations) had a rubber air hose that the cars would drive over which then rang a bell inside the station to alert the guys to come out to the pump area to see what you needed.
I'm so old I remember... Nylon bias-belted tires that had inner tubes and would go thud thud thud down the road in cold weather until they got warm. And snow tires with huge lugs that dug into the snow and eventually tungsten spikes. Before that you need snow chains on your rear tires..what a job !!

We have a very old gas station not far from here that still has those rubber hoses to tell whose working that someone is there. If the owner is there and not busy he will come out and fill your car with gas himself.
