I sure miss those chrome bumpers on cars. The plastic ones break so easily and then you have to replace the whole thing. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that you end up spending a lot of money to buy an entire replacement bumper cover from the auto maker for every little mishap when before you could just ignore that little dent in your chrome bumper.

I miss the gift wrapping depts. in stores. Gift wrapping was a good entry level job for high school girls, especially for summers and Christmas vacations. My sister did that one summer in the 1940's.

It was nice to be able to take the special gift for a new baby--or anniversary, graduation, wedding, etc.-- to the gift wrapping dept. and the girls would wrap it and make it look really special. Half the fun of getting a gift used to be the unwrapping of it to see what was in it and the other half was watching the person unwrap it and be excited of what they had just been given.

Does anyone remember Breakfast Squares? I loved those things as a child! Figurines, Carnation breakfast bars, Gatorade chewing gum. There was Stir & Frost cake - pretty awful - and Light & Lively dairy products. Powerhouse, Summit & Bar None bars.

  1. When purchasing gas, sitting in the car, opening the window, and tipping the credit card out the window to hand to the attendant.
  2. Proprietary credit cards for gasoline companies. At one time I had Mobil, Exxon, Shell, Texaco and Amoco. And I'm sure I'm missing a few. I even remember most of my account numbers. Mobil, xxx xxx 762 91, Exxon xxx xxx 182 2. I got those in 1976.

I'm so old I remember when a bun hairdo was for OLD women only. Now it's high fashion, especially the "sloppy bun".
