I think there's a really weird news story breaking.....
"All over the country, people are flocking to their cars!! There's some kinda new trend going on!!!
Sir! Sir! Why are you flocking to your car..umm...err....in your BVDs? Cuz I need to look at my gas gauge light up thingy!! Oh my Gawd! Oh my Gawd! It's true!! It's true!
Well folks now you have it....the gas tank thingy is true!! Back to you in the studio."
Ok I wrote that in jest after I read these entries...ok, ok, after I grabbed my keys and went and check it myself. This is sooooooo cool.
I know something a teenager doesn't!!! Wait, it's technical...they probably know.
Ok, after all this ima check mine too but I can wait until it's time to go home.
I was going to say too - what about the people who fuel from the back? I saw someone at the station once who flipped their license plate to access the gas cap. Don't ask me what make or model I have no recollection...

My 1979 Z-28 Camaro was like that. Now that makes me wonder, which direction did the gas nozzle point to?

Most cars in the 60's and 70's had the gas filler hidden behind the license plate.
If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump?
The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the gas pump?
If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left? If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right .
Why is it that I’ve always thought it pointed towards the side my wallet was in ~ left pocket or right pocket?
I'll take Mike's answer. It might not be logical, but it looks like a blackhead to me. That or a really big boil
