News, Nail Gun Injuries on the Rise in Consumers.

Nail-gun injuries show big spike as more consumers buy tools for home renovation.

April 12, 2007— TORONTO (CP) - There has been a huge spike in the number of consumer nail-gun injuries as more and more do-it-yourselfers arm themselves with the powerful tools.

A study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows annual nail-gun injuries to consumers treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms have soared by about 200 per cent since 1991.

Lead author Dr. Hester Lipscomb says that of 37,000 annual nail-gun injuries, about 40 per cent were among consumers.

My installer and handyman accidentially drove nails through their thumbs and I know how they did it - they weren't safety conscious and they were in a hurry.

My neighbor across from me nailed his foot to the deck he was building 3 years ago. !! I wasn't home at the tme and he couldn't pull the nail. His wife was there and she had to cut the deck board with a hand saw and drive him to the hospital (she's a nurse btw). The nail passed right between the small bones in his foot. !! He's a tough dude and we laugh about it...his wife is not so amused.

I've got three of them in various sizes including a large Porta Cable framing gun. The problem is weekend warriors such as myself get over confident and make use of the depressed trigger function..ie bang nailing instead of depressing the foot and then pulling the trigger. You can't get cocky or lazy with a dangerous tool. The tool will in the long run win every time.

As a guy called Dirty Harry once said...

"A mans got to know his limitations "

Red face Nail Gun Woes

My husband is a carpenter. He was carefully nailing a piece of trim around the floor in a closet, when his boss him on the shoulder from behind. He jumped and put the nail through his thumb, the trim, and into the floor. I won't go into further details.

I had a nail blow through a bottom plate while framing. It stabbed into the top of my hand and bounced off every bone in the process. Then with that glue crap it was kinda hard to remove it. Man that hurt. And I had a coworker shoot his shin and cracked the bone.

Well I need to hide this thread from my hubby or I will never get to use his nail gun again
I am banned from certian of his woodworking tools. He says I make the band saw blade "scream" . I do get to use the router and the cabinet saw(as long as he is right there) but my favorite has to be the nail gun.
