I have the best solution to the home decorating idea! I DON'T PUT THEM UP AT ALL!!!! I agree the holiday items should stay out of the stores until after Thanksgiving...but there must be a multitude of shoppers enjoying it or the retail business would not have gone this route!

Yep. You got it. I get tired of the whole thing before it is over. Starting after Thanksgiving is soon enough.

I like the decorations that are just for fun.

But when a store is decorated to entice you to start spending money early I hate it.

Default profiteers

What is decorating a house with 1,000s of lights have to do with the birth of Christ? Yes, it creates lots of traffic down the street and causes delays for others, yet everyone enjoys seeing them for the first time, however it gets old for the neighbors who are affected by the unbelievable traffic jams.

It’s bad enough the retail businesses are commercialized to sell Christmas but you can’t even get away from it when you drive and return to you home because the streets are full of cars driving by the neighbor who lives down the street or a few blocks away.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to others
, but why? Why did/do you allow your religious beliefs to be sold out to profiteers? Corporations, businesses, and others produce profit for themselves because they have stolen your beliefs for the purpose of making money on it. Would Christ today want this profiteering in his name? Corporations provide lobbyists deal with the politicians today in the same way, they control and profit from them instead of doing what is right in the country for the people. It’s all about profit and greed instead of values. I’m sick of the profits for corporations at the expense of our values. IMHO

Christ didn't ask for or want any of this ~ did he?

Oh,,, and yes "buy a contract with xyz cell phone company and get free unlimited calling to the North Pole all year long!"

Buy Viagra for a stocking stuffer ~ buy one and get the second one free!

Or how about,,,,, instead of buying all those items this year for everyone, you give the money to your church so they can pay the electric bill for a needy family, or their grocery bill, maybe even the mortgage payment so a family can stay in their home a little longer. Now that’s what Christ might think would be better use of your money and instead. However make sure the church uses that money for the GOOD.

The town next to us has had a tradition for years, where they invite the entire community out to decorate the town square. They used to do it the Sunday before Thanksgiving and then the annual parade would be the day after Thanksgiving. The stores would all be open late and they would have punch and cookies while people started their shopping. One thing though that could always be counted on was snow and ice and freezing rain on that decorating Sunday and people started to stay home where it was warm, instead of coming out and warming their hearts in the company of their neighbors. Then people started going to the larger cities an hour away to go shopping for all the "Black Friday" specials the day after Thanksgiving. Then they were too "tired" to go mingle with their friends at the local merchants on Friday night. Several years ago the town moved the decorating up a couple of weeks and the Chamber of Commerce moved the Holiday Open House to the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Just trying to help out the local business people by at least trying to get people in locally before they spend everything in the city. Now I see one of the big national retailers has "Black Friday" specials every Saturday in November.

By the way, 7:30 this morning was when they met to decorate the square, and right now it is about 70 degrees. No snow, ice, or freezing rain today.
