This was taken just after the moon rose over the Atlantic Ocean in Long Branch, NJ, on November 25. The photo does not do justice to how it felt to be standing there.
And that moon/sea shot is plenty good enough to imagine being there. Although I flat-out love where I live, I've felt the powerful pull of the ocean and understand how it can swell one's spirit and set the imagination adrift.
And I'm a big fan of Mama Moon.
Btw, a warm spell has inched its way into Troutland and the bay is melting. Seems I'll probably have open water again for a few days. That makes a nice change from my first two Novembers here, when I was iced in by the 2nd week of the month and stayed that way into April.

Thank you. I was trying to get there after work for the 4:48 actual moonrise, bit it was the evening before Thanksgiving and there was traffic everywhere. I live five or six miles inland.
I had my daughter and niece with me. They took pictures as well, then we went into Rooney's, a waterfront bar/restaurant with a happy hour. 'Twas a pleasant way to usher in the evening.
Beautiful shot, MQ. Is the water always that calm there? It looks like there are no waves. In So Cal, especially in Fall and Winter, the full moon brings high surf along with high tides.

No, it's not always that calm at all. Some days the waves are huge, and when a storm is coming, it can get frighteningly--but beautifully--wild. I love to go visit the ocean at that time. I get solace from the sea.
My mother went into kidney and heart failure this past August. Since I don't have the health issues and family obligations that some of my sibs have, I was at the hospital every day for some time. On Labor Day weekend, my sisters told me to take a day off, and since that is the end of beach season for us, I wanted to go in the water one more time.
It was glorious. The waves were HUGE, but not rough and there was no strong undertow or rips. I spent most of the day by myself in the water, with breaks to rest and read on the sand in between. That day is still with me three months later, can you tell?

Thanks for sharing MQ. I've never experienced the ocean, other than a few brief moments walking on the beach along the Gulf of Mexico in Mississippi (does that count?) and, many decades ago, one late night venture to a beach in Miami after a long night of partying, which I frankly barely remembered even the next morning.
The closest I've come to what I imagine is a similar feeling is the Great Lakes ... they have a magic all their own.
