I was surprised when my 4th grader told me some of her friends have FB. Really- who does that? I can't even get her to answer or talk on the phone so I'm not surprised she has no interest in FB. She does however enjoy sending e mails to me in the next room and her grown brother and sisters who live far away.

I have friends who allowed their children to do it before 13. I wonder what they say to the kid when they're setting up the account. "Oh, just lie and say you're older" or "Just ignore the rule"?

He's in HS now, I read over his page about once a week to make sure he is not posting anything he shouldn't. He does your FB to chat with his friend thru its IM function.
I am not saying he is doing this, but I am just gonna say, you do know that if he is doing something/saying something he isnt supposed to, he can just block your ability to few that action, right? its a good thing that you trust him and of course you should, i dont think enough parents trust their children.

My little sister got it in 5th grade (she's in 7th now). She's still not 13 yet. She hardly goes on it to be honest, and I think it had more appeal when it was forbidden than it does now. She almost never posts anything at all.

We had the same issue and I let the children know that we have to respect the rules and just because everyone else does it does not mean we should do it. FB got too big too fast and I have seen many FB postings that should not be on there and have since deleted my account. Good Luck and stick to what you think and not go with what everyone else thinks.
