I was physically disciplined by a principal in high school my junior year (not that long ago, 2006 maybe?) for insubordination in class. They made me remove my wallet so they wouldn't "break my driver's license". The whole thing was somewhat comical (and would be even funnier if you saw the guy administering the swat to my rear end).
