As the others have said, its common courtesy to inform people when you're leaving the home no matter what age you are.

A quick "Mom, i'll brb, running to the 7 11" will suffice.
+1. And I'm closer to that age than average parenting age.

Yep, courtesy applies...so age doesn't matter. Just give me a holler that you're headed out.

My daughter is 16 and rarely is denied permission to do what she wants, because what she wants is reasonable. So if she wanted to run to a convenience store at 8:30, I would certainly say yes.

My 13 year old would be allowed to go as well if she had a friend to go with...probably not past 8 on a school night because the days are getting shorter and I like her to be settled down reasonably early.

Convenience store is 1/3 mile away. Weather is nice. Immediate neighborhood consists of suburban-style apartments, and a small shopping center anchored by a electronics store, and a Dollar Tree. Convenience store in question is beyond this shopping center. There is a city housing project nearby, which is skirted by while en route. Mode of transport would be bike. Parents not home, all kids (3 total) are being watched over by 19 year old family member. In this case, the one going to the store is the oldest out of the three.

Thanks for the replies so far!

How old are the 2 being left home alone? If they are old enough to be home alone I still think the 19 year old needs to at least let the other siblings know they are leaving the house.

Depends. Are you suspended from school and wearing a hoodie? If so, stay inside at all times.

As long as parents and their "kids" live together there is no appropriate age to take off without at least informing those you live with of your intentions.

To do so is basically rude.

It's not an age thing, it's a courtesy thing. When I was in high school, and junior high, I thought my parents were being controlling when they wanted to know my whereabouts, but now that I'm a little older I totally understand. It's just wanting to know where people in your house are in case something happens. Seems reasonable. In your case as a 19 year old I would let the siblings know and maybe send a quick text to mom or dad letting them know, or leave a note in case they get home before you do.
