An article in the US News and World Report: Spanking Raises Chances of Risky, Deviant Sexual Behavior

I was actually most surprised to learn that 90% of parents spank their children.

I'm sorry, but that is one of the silliest things I've read. I'm sure they have plenty of "research" to back up their findings, but who gets paid to research this stuff??? I think it's just silly.

Good piece of info to read, a bit ridiculous but.....
But the first time I spanked my son, it's because he kicked a visiting teacher in the knee.
The second time I spanked my son, it's because he bit the crap out of this kid's arm.
And there have been very few times since then.

And I guess I'm one of the "lucky few....."

Umm actually these findings are not all that new; it is fairly common knowledge. Heck I learned about it over 10 years ago in my introductory psych. classes!

Gee, I got plenty of spankings as a kid (a few I probably did not deserve and probably more times I should have gotten one that did not ). I was not into "risky and deviant sexual behavior". My husband got them too and we were each others first and it was WAY AFTER we were out of high school.

I'd say this kind of crap is just that. If they got this much time on their hands there are a LOT more beneficial things they could do with it.

That's ridiculous.

Someone has way to much time on their hands, and most likely has never been AROUND a kid, much less had any!

geez....

lol I'm with the rest of the crowd. This is such a load of bull! Far too many people these days do not take responsibility for their actions. There is always an excuse.

Actually in my undergrad Deviant Behavior class we learned that deviant sexual behavior and dysfunction have been linked to hormonal and nervous system processes as well as sexual abuse in some cases. I believe that you will also find this in DSM-IV.
Never, in MY undergrad or graduate school was spanking linked to Deviant Sexual Behavior.

I don't put a whole lot of stock into stuff like this. Maybe for some people, it's true...but I had the holy terror beaten out of me and believe me, I don't equate that with LOVE, not directly...I equate it with my horrible behavior when I was a kid!!! Ugh. I think there's a lot more environmental issues that go on to foster the kind of relationship between physical pain and sex.

Post News, Long-term Effects of Spanking.

Spare the Rod?

Spanking may lead to aggression and sexual problems later in life, says a new study. So why do so many parents still believe in it?
