I almost got nailed there once when I was dramatically exceeding the speed limit. That would have been the only one. Hey, I was just following traffic. I also happened to be the last car in line.

So here's the verdict. I have to take an 8 hour defensive driving course before December and send them the certificate in order to get this reduced to a defective speedometer, plus the additional ticket, lawyer and court fees which amounts to a total of $600 ish.

I see that there are 8 hour online defensive driving courses available. Does that qualify to reduce your verdict? Did you have to go to Virginia for the hearing or will you have to go for the redetermination after you do the defensive driving course?

I don't like those VA speed traps. Did they get you on a downhill section of the Interstate? I don't like PA when they set up on downhill sections of the road. It seems unfair to use gravity against our motorist. I could understand it if the downhill sections were where the road approached a dangerous intersection. But many of these speed traps are simply on straight downhill interstates with nothing to pose a danger to the motorist or other motorist - other than the speed trap.

Anyway; thank you for the update!

The lawyer says I do not have to be there and can take the course online. It doesn't even have to be for Virginia as long as it's DMV approved. Though I chose one for Virginia out of staters. I can send them the certificate, probably via certified mail so I know they get it. It wasn't a downhill one, I was on 95 passing a truck.

Thank you! But that is what you get for picking on truckers in VA! Especially; truckers that know there is a VA State policeman sitting around the next turn.
