The county seat of Chester County is West Chester. Great little town and one that is often recommended on this forum as a nice place to live in the western suburbs. Also happens to be the birthplace of one of my kids!

There is a city called Chester on the Delaware river in Delaware County that is a bad place but it has no conection to Chester county. If I am not mistaken, Chester county has the highest per capita income of all the suburban countys around Philadelphia.

I could be wrong but I thought that honor belonged to Montgomery County.

You would think so but I believe i read somewhere that it was Chester County. I remember because it proved the theory that the further away you go from the Delaware River (in either direction) the higher the income level rises.

I just looked it up. Chester Co is the richest in PA with $46,917 per capita. Montgomery is 2nd with $30,898. Montgomery may have more rich people but it also has more poor people.

While there are definitely some highly affluent municipalities in Montgomery County (Lower Merion, Whitpain, Upper Dublin, etc.), it's true that Chester County does have more on a per capita basis (lots of "new" money in the outer suburbs like Chester Springs, Chadds Ford, Downingtown, etc.). However, I've never heard of the rule of income rising the further away from the Delaware you go. Several of the inner-suburbs (Main Line, in particular) are contrary to that theory, but I can see that in the cases of DelCo and South Jersey.
