Philadelphia is expanding and revitalizing itself but with new changes in the city. Transportation should not be ignored.

Should Septa try to build a new subway line that goes as far to Bensalem.

That's one thing I never liked about northeast, if you don't have a car it's too far.

No. However, it was supposed to continue west from where the current tunnel terminates under Locust and 18th Sts up 20th St to Arch, and from Arch St east back to the Broad St. trunk line creating a kind of downtown loop. Only the stretch down Ridge, 8th, and Locust was completed, along with a section under Arch St which doesn't connect with anything.

There were lots and lots of proposals for where the subway system should go floating around in the 20s. Most of it never got built, although a few things were incorporated into the current subways design that was intended for the future growth of the system. Beyond the half built downtown loop, which has been split in half between PATCO and the Ridge-Spur, a section of tunnel was built branching off at Erie Ave for the proposed NE extension, and space was left at Snyder Ave for the construction of a SW extension down Passyunk Ave.

Obviously, none of this is ever getting built. What you see is what you get as far as subways in Philadelphia go, probably for the next 50-75 years.

A former Philadelphian here, with some questions about trolley lines...

Looking at the transit map posted above, I see some things marked as LRT:

1. Line 23 is marked as "resume LRT service." This is the 23 trolley to Chestnut Hill? Was this stopped, or changed to a bus? Does this bus really go from Chestnut Hill to South Philly?

2. There is a Line 56 marked as Resume LRT service. Was this once a trolley route? I am not familiar with this line.

3. There is a City Branch marked as a branch off of the 15 trolley. What streets would this follow?

4. There is a solid green line in Jersey, it crosses PATCO and then heads up north - what is this?

This is the Riverline Light Rail line run by NJ Transit. Camden to Trenton.

Also, the 23 is now a bus. And yes - Chestnut Hill to South Philly, I think Broad and Oregon. It's incredibly long.

True. I doubt you'll ever see the Broad St extended up the Blvd. Not much support for it in the Northeast.
