And of course not every house needs a lawn, but that doesn't make someone selfish or crazy for wanting one.
Different strokes for different folks. Obviously, I'm very anti-suburbia and was using hyperbole.

I understand why someone would want more land, but not if there isn't a variety of landscaping, vegetation and life.
Seems to defeat the purpose otherwise.

This seems to have gone way off topic though. You can have lawns in many city neighborhoods, if that's your thing.
Sometimes even a rowhome.

Haha, typical. You didn't need to inform me of that shocking news.

Such a truly odd thing to say.

Oh dear (that's how you communicate, yes?)

JK-but seriously, I'm sure you have no problem with people like Frankie and others ranting and raving about being anti-city.
I don't see how it's odd for me to fundamentally disagree with the typical suburban lifestyle of waste and consumption.

A lot of people over here in Michigan are insane about their lawns. You'll get a few that don't care as much, but the people here feel that if their lawns aren't as manicured as their neighbors that it hurts their pride or that if their neighbors aren't as nice as theirs it reflects poorly on them. I knew someone once who had people come to his door because they claimed his lawn wasn't as nice as they wished it to be and that they'd call the cops on him if he didn't compete with theirs. Lawns can be a pretty big deal!

LOL at urban-dwellers being fundamentally less wasteful/materialistic people.

I should note that the backyards usually weren't as well taken care of as the front. A lot of the time is it all for show. Other people, it is a real hobby for them.

You know who the worst is at waste and consumption? Humans. Period.

It doesn't matter if they live in the city or the burbs. We all waste things in one way or another. we are a nation of consumers. no matter how high and mighty city dwellers think they are for living in the city or suburbanites for living outside the city. the only ones that actually have a slight advantage are those in rural areas because they typically have the knowledge and means to be at least somewhat self sufficient.

It's not a "suburban lifestyle of waste and consumption" it's a an American lifestyle of waste and consumption.
