No, they would know Fishtown to be Fishtown. They probably mean the "White Irish" part of Kenzington when they say it.

Philly was perfectly willing to elect Ed Rendell twice even though he's originally a New Yorker. John Street is from MontCo too if that's far enough to count as a transplant to the city proper.

Ed Rendell has continuously lived in the region since he was 18. John Street's (many) other faults aside, I wouldn't call someone from Norristown a transplant.

When Rendell first showed an interest in running for mayor Frank Rizzo started calling him Fast Eddie, alluding to his NY & Jewish background. After Rizzo botched the bicentennial, that actually helped Rendell when he eventually ran.

My only quip is the ones who have an air to them or complain about somewhere they chose to move to because of differences/quirks.
