But yeah, it would be a big hit for Philly if Comcast left.
Not enough demand.

Its kind of sad though that one of America's most hated companies is Philadelphia's most prominent.

The real sad part is the sheep herd mentality of this country. It originally was that people hated Comcast because they were supposedly lobbying against net neutrality. Turns out Verizon cared where more anyway. Now people hate Comcast because their neighbors cousins uncles grandmothers friend read on reddit a story about how the squirrels ate through her wire and they didn't fix it for a month. And some hipster dad fake journalist web blogger recorded his call with full intentions of being an ass to a random customer service person. I think they should try to improve their customer service but it's pretty sick how people act like a company that delivers cable and Internet (at pretty competitive rates no less) is secretly the devil.

Have you ever had to deal with their customer service? Obviously you haven't, because they are god awful and completely unhelpful. That notion was solidified for me after a horrible experience calling about a problem yesterday. You don't get to be a company as hated as Comcast just because of one or two viral videos that show poor customer service. Treating customers like crap is an ingrained part of the culture at Comcast, and it shows in the company's rankings.

I have probably been a customer of theirs longer than you have and I really don't have problems arising well ever. As I mentioned they need to put real focus on fixing their customer service.

My issue was this: My internet speeds suddenly slowed down dramatically for no apparent reason. After trying all the fixes they told me to do, it was still slow. They send a repair guy to my apartment, and he tracked mud all up and down my kitchen/living room. He figured the problem was with a wire on the street below, and he replaced a part and fixed the problem. I asked if they were going to charge me for it, and he said no since it was something out of my control. That was February. Fast forward to earlier this week and I find out my checking account was overdrawn by $40 and I got charged a $35 overdraft fee by my bank because I wasn't expecting Comcast to withdraw an extra $40. I checked my account online to find that Comcast charged me $40 for "customertroublecall" with the date the guy came to my apartment stamped on it. I called them absolutely furious because not only did they charge me for something they shouldn't, they also caused me to pay an overdraft fee to my bank. The customer service guy tried to feed me some crap to try to get me to back down, but he realized I wasn't going away, and he promised to credit back to my account the $40 charge plus the other $40 for my bank overdraft charge. I told him I wasn't hanging up until he credited back my account, and he put me on hold for close to an hour before I finally got frustrated and just hung up. That was two days ago and my account still hasn't been credited. I've talked to several people about this and many have their own Comcast horror stories.

I've only been a customer for 8 months but as soon as I can, I'm switching, even if it costs me more money.

Most people who work in the city probably live in the suburbs. The wage tax keeps many of them there.

It's Fox the most watched network mostly because of the "news" division? What does that tell you?

Agree. Comcasts presence is enormously important for Philadelphia. Its become so much more than just a cable company since its acquisition of NBC Universal. It does for Philadelphia what Turner/CNN did for Atlanta. What Apple and Google does for Silicon Valley, Microsoft/Seatte etc etc..

Philadlephia is lucky to be home base for such an important company.
