This is terrible for air quality. Rush hour is going to be a mess for a long time. 95 is closed in both directions.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A tanker fire underneath an Interstate 95 overpass in Philadelphia has caused part of the highway to collapse.

Video from Chopper 6 showed multiple northbound lanes of the highway were reduced to rubble on Sunday morning.

The southbound lanes are also compromised, officials said.

I recall back in like 2009 issues with crumbling infrastructure issues on the elevated sections of I-95 from Center City north through NE Philly. Some of it might have been repaired, but makes you wonder if this was a portion not yet addressed.

Wow, so it clearly wasn't because of old crumbling concrete. 1500-degree flames from burning oil melted the steel reinforcements instead apparently.

I-85 in Atlanta was rebuilt within about six weeks after it collapsed. I expect the same of I-95 in Philadelphia.

Nah. The organized labor movement will milk this for months, if not years. This is neither a city nor a state that pride themselves on being quick or efficient.

What a mess. And knowing PennDOT's snail-like modus operandi, this will be a mess for many months.
